UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC ADVISORY PRACTICE PRINCIPLES
These guidelines cover the implementation principles for undergraduate students enrolled in higher education programs, regarding the evaluation of their academic performance in selecting courses each semester, and all types of counseling services to be provided on adapting to university life, professional development, and career matters.
Provision of Consulting Services
Appointment and Term of Office of Advisors
The appointment and term of office of student advisors are determined according to the Izmir University of Economics Academic Advising Guidelines .
Faculty Dean's Duties
a) To ensure a fair distribution of advisory workloads among academic advisors,
b) To inform department heads about the provision of academic advising services.
c) To undertake the necessary work and take measures to resolve problems related to academic advising,
d) At the end of each academic year, to discuss the development suggestions submitted by the department head at department meetings, to develop solutions to any issues that need attention, and to submit them to the Rector's office.
Duties of the Advisory Board
a) All faculty members working in and providing consultancy services in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation department constitute the Advisory Board.
b) Advisory Board meetings are held concurrently with Department meetings.
c) The Advisory Board meets at least once each semester, before course registration, to exchange information regarding academic advising services.
d) At the end of each academic year, they reconvene to discuss any issues and suggestions regarding academic advising services.
Consultant's Responsibilities
a) To know and fulfill the duties of student academic advisor as defined in the Izmir University of Economics Academic Advising Guidelines ,
b) To be present at the university at the beginning of each academic term during the course registration and add/drop periods; in cases where they cannot be present, to delegate their duties to another faculty member with the approval of the department head and to inform students of the situation at least one day before the course registration and add/drop periods of each term.
c) To contribute to the organization of the training program,
d) To provide career guidance to students,
e) To inform students about the current regulations and guidelines to which they are subject.
d) To monitor students' academic performance, and in case of failure, to investigate the reasons for the failure and try to find solutions.
e) To refer students to the relevant units within the University for psychological counseling and guidance services when deemed necessary.
f) Monitoring the student's overall situation and, if needed, providing information to enable the student to benefit from available scholarships or similar opportunities.
g) To guide students towards science, culture, and art activities in which they can participate, so that they can use their extracurricular time effectively and productively.
h) To schedule meetings with students to conduct counseling activities, to announce the dates and times of these meetings to the students, or to schedule and conduct appointments.
i) To record the consultation meetings using the consultation form included in the Appendix ,
i) To participate in the Advisory Board,
To maintain continuous and effective communication with the Department Secretariat, the Department Head, and, when necessary, the Dean's Office, in order to prevent any disruptions in work and procedures .
k) To complete all other tasks assigned by the Department Head/Dean's Office in relation to the main duties listed above, in a timely manner, and to inform the relevant authorities accordingly.
Student Responsibilities
a) To know and comply with the Student's Responsibilities in the Counseling System as defined in the Izmir University of Economics Academic Counseling Guidelines ,
b) During each academic term, in accordance with the Izmir University of Economics, Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education, Teaching and Examination Regulations, students must register for courses, select courses, add/drop courses, and have the selected, added/dropped courses approved by their academic advisor.
c) To know and apply the principles of the Higher Education Institutions Student Disciplinary Regulations,
d) To adhere to the announced meeting days and times, and to share academic issues with their academic advisor during the specified hours.
