A visit was carried out by the İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences to Balçova Municipality. During the meeting, the continuation of existing joint projects and the development of new collaborations were discussed.

The visit was attended by Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce Aktaş, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tülay Yavan, Head of the Department of Nursing, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ata Elvan, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Gürpınar, faculty member of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.

We once again extend our gratitude to Balçova Municipality for their support of our joint initiatives.

Under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Gürpınar from İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the project titled “Comparison of the Inflammatory Gene Expression Response and Symptoms to Combined Land- and Water-Based Exercises in Individuals with Axial Spondyloarthritis” has been awarded funding within the scope of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Grant Program.

The research team includes Asst. Prof. Dr. Seda Yakıt Yeşilyurt (İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation), Asst. Prof. Dr. Merve Başol Göksülük (Sakarya University, Department of Biostatistics), Asst. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Kiraz (İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Genetics and Bioengineering), and Prof. Dr. İsmail Sarı (Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine). The project will investigate the biological and clinical effects of exercise approaches in individuals with axial spondyloarthritis. We sincerely congratulate our esteemed faculty members and wish them continued success in their work.

The 1st International Izmir University of Economics Health Sciences Congress, hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences, took place on April 25–26, 2025 at Izmir University of Economics. The congress brought together academics and experts from various disciplines to exchange knowledge and share the latest scientific developments in the field of health sciences.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Balçova Municipality organized the ‘2^nd Healthy Aging Symposium’ for individuals over 60 living in the district, marking an exemplary collaboration. 

Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Lecture titled "From Mythology to Terminology" was held with the contributions of Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar. The opening lecture was attended by students from Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics departments as well as interested participants. At the end of the lecture, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce Aktaş presented a certificate of appreciation to Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar for her contributions.

Moderated by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, in cooperation with Balçova Municipality, we successfully held our Healthy Aging Symposium within the scope of 18-24 March Elderly Week with the enthusiastic participation of valuable Balçova residents. We would like to thank our expert speakers, all participants and our students.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) hosted the Wheelchair Table Tennis athletes of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality at the Table Tennis Tournament organized with the theme of ‘Sporla Engelleri Aşıyoruz’ (We Overcome Obstacles with Sports).

Within the scope of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a Breast Cancer Awareness stand was established with the students of Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences and Health Club.

Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Lecture was held with Prof. Sema Savcı's speech titled 'The Power of Touch'.
