As part of Elderly Week (18–24 March), the “3rd Healthy Aging Symposium” will be held on 17 March 2026 at the A Block Conference Hall of Izmir University of Economics, with the contributions of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences at Izmir University of Economics and the Balçova Municipality.
With the participation of expert speakers in their fields, this event will address current scientific approaches and practices related to the healthy aging process. Everyone interested is invited to attend our symposium.
A visit was carried out by the İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences to Balçova Municipality. During the meeting, the continuation of existing joint projects and the development of new collaborations were discussed.

Under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Gürpınar from İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the project titled “Comparison of the Inflammatory Gene Expression Response and Symptoms to Combined Land- and Water-Based Exercises in Individuals with Axial Spondyloarthritis” has been awarded funding within the scope of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Grant Program.
The research team includes Asst. Prof. Dr. Seda Yakıt Yeşilyurt (İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation), Asst. Prof. Dr. Merve Başol Göksülük (Sakarya University, Department of Biostatistics), Asst. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Kiraz (İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Genetics and Bioengineering), and Prof. Dr. İsmail Sarı (Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine). The project will investigate the biological and clinical effects of exercise approaches in individuals with axial spondyloarthritis. We sincerely congratulate our esteemed faculty members and wish them continued success in their work.
The 1st International Izmir University of Economics Health Sciences Congress, hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences, took place on April 25–26, 2025 at Izmir University of Economics. The congress brought together academics and experts from various disciplines to exchange knowledge and share the latest scientific developments in the field of health sciences.
Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Lecture titled "From Mythology to Terminology" was held with the contributions of Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar. The opening lecture was attended by students from Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics departments as well as interested participants. At the end of the lecture, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce Aktaş presented a certificate of appreciation to Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar for her contributions.
Moderated by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, in cooperation with Balçova Municipality, we successfully held our Healthy Aging Symposium within the scope of 18-24 March Elderly Week with the enthusiastic participation of valuable Balçova residents.
