The opening lecture for the 2026–2027 academic year at our Faculty of Health Sciences took place with Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sağ from the İzmir Center for Biomedicine and Genomics as the guest speaker. At the event, which drew significant interest from our students and faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Sağ delivered the opening lecture titled “Psychology and the Immune System.” Having conducted research in recent years on the effects of psychology on the immune system, Assoc. Prof. Sağ shared the findings from her work and informed the audience about the relationship between psychology and the immune system.
Speaking at the event’s opening, our Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce Aktaş, emphasized that a new academic year does not merely signify new courses and a new schedule, but also marks the beginning of relearning, curiosity, inquiry, and growing together.
Noting that one of the most important things students will gain at the university is learning to ask the right questions, Prof. Dr. Öğce Aktaş continued: “Because science often begins with a good question.” We expect you not only to acquire knowledge in your field but also to be curious about different disciplines, to think critically, to conduct research, and to become healthcare professionals capable of adapting to a changing world. I hope the new academic year brings success, curiosity, and growth for you, the students, and a productive, collaborative, and pleasant working environment for us, the faculty.
