Course Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students to gain knowledge about orthosis types and properties, the selection and use of orthoses suitable for disability situations, the use of orthoses within the scope of daily living activities and increasing mobility, the basic principles of prostheses and the physiological and psychological effects of amputation and to learn rehabilitation procedures.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • define the concepts and basic principles of orthotic prosthesis rehabilitation;
  • explain the relationship between amputation, ideal stump, and indications of amputation, surgical techniques and prosthesis type;
  • explain different types of orthoses and their indications;
  • discuss the rehabilitation of amputation-prosthesis relation with case reports;
  • discuss orthotics rehabilitation with case reports.
Course Description This course covers general information about upper and lower extremity and trunk orthoses, indications of orthoses, usage areas in daily life, basic information about upper and lower extremity prostheses, selection of suitable prosthesis parts according to different prosthesis types and amputation level, amputee rehabilitation and daily living activities.
